Family Videos On The Web?
This weekend was partially spent taking video of a couple of new events in the life of our two year old. Being in the business of web video production, it's natural for me to want to put some of this material "out there" for friends (and the rest of the world) to see. But is that the kind of reaction most people would have?
I know there is a certain category of people who want to remain anonymous online, so the idea of putting anything on the internet that would be personally identifiable is completely out of the question.
Others go to the other extreme and will put their entire lives in online video with a "big brother" type of transparency.
But where is the line for normal?
For me, I don't have too much concern for people knowing who I am, what I look like, and what my mannerisms are like. In fact, for certain business models I recommend people do that so web site visitors will know that there is an honest person behind a website.
Should family videos be off limits? For what reasons?
I can understand wanting a certain amount of privacy, but unless you never leave the house people see your family in public anyway.
Is it that no one would be interested in family video? That's a stronger argument, but going back to the "trust" issue it can be good (for business purposes) to show that you're not just a loner hiding behind a computer screen.
I'm really interested to hear what y'all think on this!
In the meantime, I will edit down some of the video taken this weekend of new bunnies and swimming class and post them here later. They won't be going on YouTube though.
