Overlays For Your YouTube Videos

Over at TechCrunch they been talking about a new feature at YouTube. This is a feature that allows you to put a clickable link over the top of your video.

What gets lost in the excitement is that this only works if you are using your video as a YouTube advertisement. That is, you're paying YouTube to place your video highly in the search results.

A lot of the comments over at TechCrunch seem to be complaining about overlays on videos. While I agree it can be annoying to have those overlays there, what can you expect if you choose to watch a video that is a sponsored listing?

Personally, I have not paid to have my videos rank well yet, because I can do a pretty good job getting them to rank without paying extra money to Google/YouTube.

However this may change my mind and I'll give a few pennies to Google/YouTube each time someone watches my video, if I can use this feature to have a link on top of my video that goes directly back to my site, or any other site I want to go to.

Hmmm… I bet that's what they have in mind ;)
