Video Marketing Casualties – Another Host In Trouble

One more item that I will be adding to my list of reasons why you should host your own videos is:

"What happens if the video sharing site you were counting on to host your video (and send you visitors) goes out of business?"

This recently happened with Joost (news here), and it looks like Vimeo is in trouble.

On a personal business level, Vimeo leaving the playing field is a bigger deal than Joost – I've used (and recommended) Vimeo for submitting marketing videos and they have a history of ranking pretty well.

The fact that Vimeo is in trouble at all shows how difficult these video sharing sites are finding it to make a buck hosting other people's stuff. This company is backed by Micheal Eisner (of Disney) and Goldman Sachs, so you know they had a bit of cash going in.

What I wonder, is how soon will the other video sharing sites fall off if these big guns are starting to crap out?
